Boy with elephant in Costume

Title:
Boy with elephant in Costume
Town:
Williston
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
1913
Description:
This is a historical image of a boy leading two people dressed as an elephant during the 1913 Williston historical parade. In the image, a boy stands holding a lead rope and wears a buttoned coat with knickers and a hat. Next to the boy, there are two people dressed as an elephant. A banner on the side of the elephant reads, "194 years old." An American flag is behind the ear of the elephant and a second flag is placed at its flank. In the background, there is a small wooden house, a front door and two windows with shutters can be seen. To the right in the background two women wearing white are on a patio, one sits and the other stands. Season is summer. The writing on the image reads, "150th Anniversary Parade Williston, VT." Karen Shastany writes on 2005-08-24. I believe that the photos of the parade were taken on Route 2 near the center of the village. Information with the image reads: Gift of Mrs. Betsy and Miss Margaret Webster.
