Aerial view of UVM's Central Campus

Title:
Aerial View of Main Campus
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
1973
Description:
This historic photograph shows an aerial view of main campus looking east. In the foreground, a section of South Prospect Street and the Waterman building mark the western boundary of the UVM campus. Numerous deciduous trees, walking paths, and a large central fountain characterize the UVM green. Rising above the green, on University Terrace, are the oldest buildings on the UVM campus (from right to left) Morrill Hall, the old Gymnasium (Royal Tyler Theater), Old Mill, Williams Science Hall, and the Billings Library (Currently the Student Center). Behind these buildings sits the remainder of the Main UVM campus, with limited open green space, and sparse tree vegetation. To the right of Main campus sits Main Street, which is characterized by sparse deciduous trees, and sidewalks. Behind the campus, East Avenue is visible, with numerous developments and Centennial Field beyond the street. The Winooski River and Interstate 89 are visible in the background, surrounded by patches of forest and open fields. South Burlington is visible in the upper right corner. The season is summer. Aerial view of UVM's Central Campus
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:

Description:
This photograph shows central campus of the University of Vermont. In the bottom left corner the student health clinic can be seen with a parking lot and Waterman building is in the center of the photo. Waterman is on the corner of Prospect Street and College Street, College Street is going vertically down the center of the photo. On the far right of the photo is Main Street. Right where Main Street curves and meets University place in the middle ground of the photo, on the right Pomeroy Hall can be seen, with the first yellow building next to it being 481 Main Street which is the Religion and Classics department. At the corner of South Prospect and Main Street is Allen House. Where Main Street curves, on the left Morrill Hall can be seen with the Davis Center being constructed behind it, and the parking lot by the water tower is visible too. Next to the water tower Given Medical building can be seen, with Stafford Hall and Aiken building to the right of it. Hills Agricultural Science building and Marsh Life Science can be seen to the left, and Rowell Hall to the left of that. Continuing left there is the castle-looking Converse Hall and Fletcher Allen Hospital. In front of Converse the residence halls of Chittenden, Buckham, and Wills can be seen. In front of the hospital there is Fleming Museum with Perkins Building and Ira Allen Chapel visible. To the right of the chapel Billings Student Center can be seen with Votey and Kalkin halls directly behind it. To the right of Billings in Williams Hall which hosts the Art and Anthropology departments, behind Williams Cook Physical Science building can be seen. Old Mill can be seen to the right of Williams, and to the right of that is the Royall Tyler theatre. Behind the theatre is Bailey/Howe Library. East Avenue can be slightly seen behind the hospital and Converse Hall. Homes can be seen behind the water tower, and scattered in the heavily forested land directly behind campus that takes up the top half of the photograph. The interstate is hard to see from here because there are so many trees along the side, but there is a line of sorts about 2/3 of the way up from the bottom of the picture that looks like there are no trees there, that would be the interstate. The very top of the photograph has a long strip of pavement which would be the runway at the Burlington International Airport.
