Description:
This aerial photograph shows UVM and Main Street plus the surrounding area. In the very center of the photograph is College Street which connects with Prospect Street right about where Waterman building is. To the left of Waterman is a parking lot and the campus health clinic which is on the corner of Prospect and Pearl Street/Colchester Avenue, which extends upwards to the east on the left side of the photograph. To the right of College St. is Main Street. There are many buildings all along these streets. Pomeroy Hall is visible at the curve in Main Street where it junctions with University Place. Main Street also intersects further down with South Prospect Street which runs southward, and it's junction with Maple Street can be seen on the far right side. Across the green with zig-zagging paths from Waterman is Main Campus of UVM. Ira Allen Chapel, Billings Student Center, Williams Hall, Old Mill, Royall Tyler Theaer, Bailey/Howe Library, and Morrill Hall are all visible along University Place. Behind those buildings Fleming Museum, Fletcher Allen Hospital, Cook Physical Science building, Chittenden/Buckham/Wills, and Converse Hall are all visible as well as Rowell Hall, Given Medical Center, Aiken building, the under-construction Davis Center, Hills Agricultural Science building, Stafford Hall, and the water tower. Across from the water tower the Living/Learning Center, Marsh/Austin/Tupper, and University Heights dormitories are visible along the University Heights road. Behind campus lots of forested land is prominent, hiding most of the interstate from view. I-89 can be see on the left side of the photograph about 2/3 of the way up from the bottom. On the right side of the same area of the photo there is the runway of Burlington International Airport. The rest of the land behind the interstate and airport is heavily forested with deciduous and coniferous trees with scattered houses and other buildings in the midst, which are mostly the towns of Essex and Colchester. This leads all the way to the Green Mountains in the background.

State:

Description:
This historic photograph shows a birds-eye view of Main Street and the surrounding area. On the left side of the photograph is the UVM Main campus, which is boarded on two sides by roads lined with University buildings. Both of these roads (Main Street and University Place) appear paved, marked with lines, and lined with utility poles and large elm trees. Cars are visible throughout the photograph on streets and in parking lots. To the right of the photograph is an uncovered reservoir, which sits at the corner of Main and University. A view of East Campus and the Gutterson Field house is also visible on the right. Across from Main campus is the UVM green, which is characterized by large elm trees, walking paths, and a central fountain. Facing the green to the west is the Waterman Building surrounded by a lawn and ornamental shrubs. Around the UVM campus lays the city of Burlington, which appears heavily forested. Observable features within the city include numerous wood framed dwellings, sidewalks, streets, elm trees, and automobiles. In the hills behind the UVM campus, Interstate 89 crosses under Main Street (Williston Road), with large developments visible in adjacent fields. Large fields with pockets of forest dominate the background in the historic photograph, and extend back to the mountains and a nice view of Camels Hump and the surrounding mountains. The season is autumn. For more information on UVM or UVM buildings check out www.uvm.edu/campus
