Title:
Angell House
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
1925-03-13
Description:
The back of the historic photograph reads, "Angell House, the old home of the presidents. Situated beside library, and displaced by chapel." In the photograph, an old brick home sits abandoned on top of a hill. Below the hill, a sidewalk and road slope down to the left past a granite hitching post in the foreground. On the hill leading from the road to the building, are a set of cement stairs and a walkway. Large conifer trees and grass occupy the terrace around the building; however, a few maple trees are in frame. The building appears unused and run down, with shrubs and hedges growing haphazardly around the property. The East side of Torrey Hall is visible behind the home. The season is late winter. Title:
Ira Allen Chapel (old location of Angell House)
Town:
Burlington
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
2005-06-06
Description:
The Angell House from the historic photo is no longer visible; however, the building that replaced it, Ira Allen Chapel is on the hill in its exact location. Below the hill, a sidewalk and road slope down the to the left in the foreground, however the hitching post has long since been removed and vehicles are parked along the side of the road. On the hill leading from the road to the building, are a similar (possibly the same) set of stairs and a walkway. Due to the size of the chapel, a second stairway appears to have been added at the time of the addition. Hedges and some nice shrubs have replaced the large trees that occupied the front of the property. Some deciduous trees are to the left of the image, almost out of view. Torrey Hall is no longer visible due to the construction of the new chapel. The season is late spring. UVM Campus
