Title:
Webster's General Store
Town:
Burke
County:
Caledonia
State:
Vermont
Date:
1910 - 1920
Description:
Webster's General Store was at the core of East Burke. The writing on the picture appears to read "Webster and Kelley's Store, E. Burke VT." Known then as Webster's, the store has survived many ownership changes including what seemed to be the end of the store in 2000 when Burke Mountain changed hands. Now called Bailey's and Burke, commonly known as Bailey's, the original structure still stands and the building remains a general store serving the community of East Burke as well as the large tourist population during the Summer (mountain biking), Fall (foliage), and Winter (skiing and snowmobiling). Two men are standing on the porch of the general store. A utility pole with an attached street light can be seen on the right side of the image.
