After the Fire

Title:
After the Fire
Town:
Barnet
County:
Caledonia
State:
Vermont
Date:
1869-12-15
Description:
Historical image is from stereoview. In the background a burned out factory stands with a pile of rubble standing next to it. A few men stand on a nearby roof, observing the damage. In the foreground a man stands next to a large lathe. Note the lack of vegetation in the image. Dave Warden writes on 2008-02-28: View is the woolen mill fire on Dec 15, 1869; site of the now general store at Barnet village. A corner of the bridge across the Stevens River is on the right edge of photo. Photgraphed probably by George Aldrich, whose studio was about 100 feet from the fire. Another view of same fire shows bags of wool in the foreground was taken from the present US Route 5.
