Title:
Aerial Photograph of the Black River after Flood
Town:
Ludlow
County:
Windsor
State:
Vermont
Date:
1927-11-08
Description:
The historic image gives a bird's eye view of the Black River as it passes through town several days after the 1927 flood. A caption at the bottom of the image reads, "11-8-27-10:15A. Ludlow, Vt." The riparian zone is mostly bare. Erosion is visible where the sediment cut steep banks along the river. The river travels over a dam and under a bridge near some mill buildings on the left side of the photograph. Sediment deposited by the floodwaters is visible in the floodplain, particularly in the lower, right corner of the image. A bridge was also wiped out in this area. There is a cemetery near the top of the image. Most of the landscape is cleared.
