A View from the Pinnacle

Title:
View from the Pinnacle, Chester, Vermont
Town:
Chester
County:
Windsor
State:
Vermont
Date:
2008-11-09
Description:
Though the original photo can no longer be replicated due to tree growth on the upper Pinnacle, this view taken about 50 feet farther down the hill and slightly to the south shows essentially the same view. Skiing still takes place here, and the gray rectangle at the base of the hill is a skate board park. The very top of the Pinnacle today is the site of a radio/cellphone communication complex. The long white barn in the medium distance is part of Buttonwood Farm. The distant ridgelines appear much the same as in the earlier view.

Description:
The historic image gives a bird's eye view of town from a nearby hillside. There is a racetrack with viewing stands in the open fields on the left side of the photograph. There are also houses, farm buildings, and a church visible in the town. Forested mountains surround the valley town. It looks like summer. The title at the bottom of the image reads, "A view from the pinnacle, Chester, Vt."
