Main Street Looking East
Town:
Johnson
County:
Lamoille
State:
Vermont
Date:
2006-04-11
Description:
Main St., Johnson is quite different in 2006 than in 1910. The dirt road is now a narrower, paved road with sidewalks and fewer trees. The buildings are much the same as in 1910, surviving the Flood of 1927 quite well even with water into the first floors. This image shows may businesses as well as a church. Signs for a salon, Chinese restaurant, hardware store, coffee shop and book store are visible There are cars parked along side the road and a few driving. Multiple pedestrian crossing signs are visible as well as a speed limit sign and a sign for public parking. Utility lines run back and forth down the street. A man can be seen with a skateboard on the far right of the image. A forested hillside is visible in the background.

Main Street Looking East
Town:
Johnson

Lamoille

Vermont
Date:
1910?
Description:
A caption at the bottom of the historic image reads, "Published by Boyles Bros, - Main Street, Looking East, Johnson, Vt." Loona Brogan (wq1962005) writes on 2005-1-6: Note the utility poles and automobile. This would make this after the turn of the century. Looks like summer as several robust shade trees line the street. The road that runs down the center of town looks compacted but dusty. There are two and three-story houses and buildings that line both sides of the street. Porches are visible on some of the buildings. What appears to be the base of a church steeple can be seen on the left side of the street. There are still some hitching posts to the left.
