Aerial View of Stowe in Autumn

Title:
Aerial View of Stowe in Autumn
Town:
Stowe
County:
Lamoille
State:
Vermont
Date:
1998
Description:
Photographer Don Landwehrle captured this autumn view of Stowe in 1998. The image was taken from a hill and looks over a forest of trees at the village below. The village is comprised of a church, a civic building, and several dwellings and commercial buildings all clustered along a road. The church stands prominently at the right end of the village. Its gable roof, columned pavilion, white-painted clapboards, and tall spire are hallmark features of Vermont churches. The civic building, which appears to be either a town hall or court house, is graced by a columned pavilion and a rooftop cupola. Elegant dwellings and commercial buildings that all appear to date from the late 19th century Victorian period line the street. Deciduous trees fill the village. A second road winds around an open field behind the village. A car drives down the road, and utility lines cross the field. A second group of buildings, all with gable roofs, are clustered on the opposite side of the field. Hills forested with deciduous trees roll across the landscape into the background. Many of the trees are ablaze with red, orange, and yellow leaves. A few open fields and small dwellings dot the vibrant autumn landscape. Mountains rise in the distance.
