Town:

County:

State:
Vermont
Date:

Description:
This image depicts the central fountain of Burlington’s City Hall Park. In the bottom half of the image we see the concrete barrier that surrounds the fountain. There are steps around this circular perimeter which lead both in and out of the fountain. To the bottom right of the central fountain is a small grate for draining water. The season is spring. Generally the fountain doesn’t flow until summer, at which time the concrete barrier surrounding the fountain serves as a container for a pool of water. Surrounding the fountain is a concrete area. Outside of the concrete area the park’s ground is covered in grass and dirt patches. There are two visible concrete pathways leading away from the fountain. Surrounding the fountain are several lampposts, park benches, and small metal and stone fences. The park is comprised of a collection of deciduous species which have just begun budding. In the background we see a row of buildings. Just before the buildings is a pedestrian walkway that cuts through the park and links Main Street with College Street. Compared to the original photograph, we can note several changes with have occurred. First off, it seems that all of the original buildings are still standing. However, the fountain and its concrete perimeter have been replaced. Similarly, there are new lampposts, young trees, park benches, and small fences.
