Aerial View of the Main House, Shelburne Farms

Title:
Aerial View of the Main House, Shelburne Farms
Town:
Shelburne
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
1950 - 2005
Description:
This historic photograph shows an aerial view of the Main House at Shelburne Farms. The house sits on a small lobe of sediment that stretches out into Lake Champlain. The house occupies almost one forth of the lobe. Close to the shore on the left is a large garden, while on the right a beach and boathouse with a large dock extend out in to the lake. A small raft is visible in the bay adjacent to the dock. Surrounding the Main House are numerous deciduous trees, many of which appear to be elms. Leading from the house and spreading across the property in all directions are dirt or gravel roads, which serve as the primary means of access to all the farm buildings. The fields inland from the house are open, with only sporadic elm trees, or small pockets of forests visible within them. The season is summer. Photograph courtesy of Fairchild Aerial Surveys.
