Title:
Flooded Sandbar
Town:
Colchester
County:
Chittenden
State:
Vermont
Date:
2008-04-28
Description:
This is a picture of Lake Champlain looking west from across from the sandbar park. The lake is flooded due to spring thaw and is encroaching on the land as can been seen by the presence of trees in the water. The Grand Isle is visible on the other side of the lake. The sun is reflected in the lake through the center of the picture. There is a duck in the lake on the right of the picture. The lake is calm. The difference between the two pictures is that the older picture shows human activity around the shore in the form of people boating and leaving their boats either anchored or beached. The water level is also much lower thus creating the beach that is not visible in the contemporary picture. In the older picture there is vegetation in the lake further suggesting that the lake level in the older picture is much lower than in the contemporary picture.
