Bird's Eye View of Town

Title:
Bird's Eye View of Town
Town:
Wilmington
County:
Windham
State:
Vermont
Date:
1907 - 1915
Description:
The historic image shows town from a nearby hill. Several elm trees line a road at the bottom of the hill. There are church steeples, houses, and a cemetery visible in the town. Most of the landscape around town consists of open fields with small, intermittent forests on rolling hills. The handwritten title at the bottom of the image reads, "Wilmington, Vt." Esther Munroe Swift writes on 2006-3-2: The town of Wilmington is uneven and broken by many valleys and streams of which the largest are the 2 branches of the Deerfield River. This view shows much of that, as well as the beautiful Wilmington village. One part of the town, which was always called Wilmington Leg because of being almost detatched from the town was eventually annexed to Dover and now is known as The Handle.
