The historic photograph shows a bird's eye view of the Winooski River and the surrounding landscape. The riparian zone is bare. Many of the open fields in the river's flood plain are partially submerged in water. A bridge has been wiped out near the center of the image, separating the town into two sections. The landscape is hilly outside of the river valley.
