A View of Main Street in McIndoe Falls

Title:
A View of Main Street in McIndoe Falls
Town:
Barnet
County:
Caledonia
State:
Vermont
Date:
1900 - 1923
Description:
Two kinds of transport are well represented in this McIndoe Falls photograph: the automobile and the horse-led wagon. Several wagons, it seems outfitted for the transport of goods, are parked here on Main. St outside a store. Two men sit in the front seat of a car, the driver wearing a cap, as they drive past the store in the foreground. The buildings are mainly two-storied, apparently designed for upstairs living and the hosting of retail stores in the downstairs. Windows are visible on the near wall of this store on the left; further down the street a building's roof is supported by thick pillars. Another elaborate car with a roof sits driverless in the center of the road. A covered wagon is visible in the distance at the edge of the photograph, down the road. We can also see utility lines leading into the photograph and to the buildings. Dave Warden writes on 2010-06-09: All these building burned in the 1923 fire
