Autumn View of Chelsea

Title:
Autumn View of Chelsea
Town:
Chelsea
County:
Orange
State:
Vermont
Date:
1965
Description:
This autumn view of Chelsea, by John H. Vondell, was taken from a grassy hill at the foreground of the image. Branches filled with vivid red and orange leaves frame the edges of the photograph. A scattering of leaves has fallen in the grass on the hill. A narrow, dirt road, which appears muddy from a fresh rainstorm, passes the base of the hill and curves into the background. The end of the road is obscured by the large, red tree. Two barbed wire fences follow the curve of the road, enclosing pastures on both sides. Dead leaves have gathered along the side of the road. Water has pooled in the pasture at the left side of the photograph. The pasture is flat along the roadside but rises into a hill as it extends out of the image frame. A farm complex is located just beyond that hill. Three barns, all with rusted, metal roofs, and a silo are visible. Hills, dotted with orange, yellow, red, and green, deciduous trees, rise in the distance. The faint image of utility lines cross the foreground of the photograph.
