This historic photograph documents an open pit at the Elizabeth Mine in Strafford, VT. In the foreground, (2-3) large holes appear to have been excavated out of the side of a large bedrock exposure. In and around these holes, primitive pieces of bracing and talus are visible. On the rock above the excavated shafts sits a man in the middle of this photograph (for scale) leaning against a rock. Behind the man, a faint outline of a talus slope and another piece of machinery can be seen. season summer.
