Aerial View of Mary Fletcher Hospital
This historic photograph shows an aerial view of the Mary Fletcher Hospital and the back part of the UVM campus. The hospital sits on the corner of Colchester and East Avenue, and consists of three large buildings, and other smaller buildings dotting the property. Colchester and East Avenue are paved roads lined with conifer and deciduous trees, as well as utility poles and lines. Behind the hospital lies an open field, cut by a paved road, and partially forested with small deciduous trees. Adjacent to the Hospital sits Converse hall, and a large parcel of conifer and deciduous trees, which make up the Center of the UVM Campus. Behind this parcel of forest is a large plowed field, bordered by a dirt road with utility poles. Another UVM building visible in this photograph is Commons Hall (The Hash House), which is the large L-shaped building located on Colchester Avenue in the far left side. The Hospital property and the surrounding UVM campus appear partially forested, but a majority of the property associated with this area is not forested. In front of the Mary Fletcher Hospital (looking NW) the town of Winooski can be seen, with a large Mill sitting on a large meandering river. The river extends from the right side of the photograph through to the left, almost horizontally across the photograph. Winooski is composed of numerous wood framed dwellings, which appear in a large cluster upon the hillside. Surrounding the cities of Burlington and Winooski the land appears cleared, with only pockets of forests visible in the distance. This partially cleared land extends back to the hills in the background, behind which Lake Champlain can be seen. The season is summer. For more information on UVM and UVM buildings check out
