Covered Bridge, Church in West Arlington

Title:
Covered Bridge, Church in West Arlington
Town:
Arlington
County:
Bennington
State:
Vermont
Date:
1950 - 1960
Description:
The historic image shows a church near a covered, wooden bridge. The riparian zone near the bridge is forested. Two people lean against a wooden guard fence where the road enters the bridge. There are open, pasture fields on the left side of the photograph but most of the landscape consists of forested mountains. Elm trees are included in the vegetation. It looks like summer. Ned Reade writes on 7-22-2004: "This is the well documented and photographed West Arlington bridge over the Battenkill River. I think the bridge structure was designed by Ithiel Town in the 19th c. The church is on the West Arlington green. To its left are two farmhouses, one of which had been Norman Rockwell's home (1939-54). This view looks SW and is pretty much unchanged today."
