Title:
Bridge over Darling Brook
Town:
Barton
County:
Orleans
State:
Vermont
Date:
2000-07-25
Description:
In the recent image of Orleans, the bridge has been replaced by a more modern bridge. Large, cut stones are visible under the new bridge. These stones could be from the old bridge. Most of the buildings in the historic photograph are gone. There is still a grassy open field, along the riparian zone in the foreground of the photograph. There is a large silo near the center of the image. A truck sits outside a red building, which could be a house or store. There are more buildings and a forest in the background of the image. Esther Munroe Swift writes on 2004-12-28: This view is of the village that was originally called Barton Landing because of its location on the Barton River. The name was changed to Orleans in 1909 & still bears that name today. NOTE: This correction has been made on the post card itself.
