Title:
Aerial View of Lakes Beebe, Echo, and Hortonia
Town:
Brandon
County:
Rutland
State:
Vermont
Date:
1910 - 1940
Description:
This black and white aerial view looks down over Beebe Lake, Echo Lake, and Lake Hortonia in Brandon. The first lake extends into the lower left corner of the image. A relatively narrow strip of land separates the first lake from the second lake, which is located in the right midground of the image. The third lake is located farther into the background. Much of the landscape is forested, but several large areas have been cleared. A few dwellings and farm complexes dot cleared fields. A road enters the lower left corner of the image, passes between the first two lakes, and disappears into the distance. Utility poles line the road. At least one car is visible driving down the road near the foreground of the image. Hills and mountains stretch across the horizon. The thick foliage suggests a summer season. This photograph was taken by a photographer for the Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Co. and contributed to the Landscape Change Program by the Penobscot Marine Museum, located in Searsport, ME. Eastern Illustrating was a postcard company located in Belfast, ME that took thousands of photographs throughout New England and upstate New York between 1909 through the 1950s.
