Title:
Fishing in South Woodbury
Town:
Woodbury
County:
Washington
State:
Vermont
Date:
1979
Description:
Photographer Clyde H. Smith captured this image of two young children fishing along a creek in South Woodbury in the spring of 1979. A small creek cuts through the tall grass at the foreground of the image. The two children stand at the far edge of the creek. The child on the right holds the fishing rod horizontally over the water, and the other child holds the fishing rod straight up in the air, with the bobbin dangling atop the water. The grassy field spreads out behind them. A group of buildings, comprising the small village, are clustered beyond the field. A handful of dwellings, a small schoolhouse, and a barn are organized around the prominent church. The tall church steeple rises over the village. A road passes through the center of town. A low stone wall defines the edges of the road at the right end of the village. Utility poles line the roadside. The faint figures of at least two people are visible on the lawn in front of the barn. Forested hills rise beyond the village. The riparian zone of the creek is only grass; no shrubs or trees. All rights reserved, copyright Vermont Life Magazine.
