Title:
Alburg-Rouses Point Bridge
Town:
Alburg
County:
Grand Isle
State:
Vermont
Date:
1988
Description:
This photo was taken during the demolition of the old Alburg-Rouses Point Bridge. Notice the smoke and flying debris while one of the old bridge piers is being blasted apart. Also note that there is still one of the steel truss sections of the old bridge in place with no concrete deck on it. The removal of the old bridge took nearly a year to complete. The concrete piers had to be taken down below the water surface several feet so as not to be an obstacle to boats. This photo was taken from the deck of the new bridge looking towards the New York shoreline. The short causeway and one pier were left in place at the request of New York State for a future fishing platform. The sign on the new bridge indicates the New York/Vermont State Line. This photo was taken in early spring 1988. Across Lake Champlain trees can be seen along the shoreline.
