Title:
Horses Hauling Granite
- Date:
- 1895?
- Description:
- The photo shows men working with horses and oxen to pull a large granite block on an 8 wheel cart. A long branch is strapped onto the granite block which is affixed to the cart with many metal chains. There are village buildings in the background and a forested slope beyond the buildings. Note the ruts made in the dirt road by the wagon. Back reads, "twenty-horse-and-ox team and crew hauling granite up the main street of Hardwick Vllage, circa 1895. Such traffic caused ongoing damage to the village streets and led to the building of the Quarry Railroad. Photo Courtesy of Hardwick Historical Society."
