Camel's Hump Observatory Building
Town:
Huntington
County:
Chittenden
State:

Description:
The photo shows a few men at the observatory on top of Camel's Hump with a dog. There are schist (metamorphic rock) boulders that crop out in large flat blocks between which isalpine tundra. The shape of the blocks is determined by the foliation of the rock, a layering caused as the heat and pressure of metamorphism form new minerals that are generally in aloignment. Note the cables holding down the building. The season is summer.
