Title:
Woodbury Granite Quarries
- Date:
- 1886
- Description:
- Photo shows workers, horses, and the derrick below the cut face of granite clearly showing joints parallel to the hill slope. The derrick is in the process of moving a block of granite, presumably to one of the wagons. There are a few trees, mostly conifers in the distance. There is an ox team on the left and a pair of horse teams with wagons in the center. Evidence of erosion can be seen in small rills or gullies on the short slope in front of the ox team. A couple workers to the left swing sledge hammers above a granite block. There are large angular blocks on the ground. The back of this photo indicated the image is from Woodbury. The Woodbury Granite Company moved its operations to Hardwick, VT some time during its history. This photo may be from when the organization was still in Woodbury.
