Title:
Church and Lookout
Town:
Brownington
County:
Orleans
State:
Vermont
Date:
1909?
Description:
This historic photograph reads, "Church and Lookout, Brownington, Vt". The small, wood-frame church has a pedimented gable roof (the triangular shape seen on the front of the building) and a three-tiered spire. Elongated windows with wooden shutters open into the facade. This church is very characteristic of the simple wood-frame churches constructed in Vermont towns and villages during the 19th century. Their tall, narrow spires have become the hallmark of the rural landscape. A wooden fence runs along the right side of the church. A small lookout is visible in the background on the far right side of the image. Grassy fields and deciduous trees surround the church.
