Title:
Rocky Shoreline at Oakledge, Looking South to Swimming Beach, Webb Era
- Date:
- 1886
- Description:
- This is a view of the rocky shoreline at Oakledge dominated by the Monkton quartzite. Many of the boudlers can still be found. The cabin on the far point is gone but elements of its foundation and chimney remain. This is a summer view by Brown's from Burlington. Ryan Sterling (wq2006) writes on 2006-1-5: This image shows a jagged shoreline. In the foreground are small boulders that seem to have fallen from the cliffs adjacent to the water and rest on a plateau of flat rock that greets the water's edge. Running along the left side of the picture are rough edges of cliffs covered in vegetation. Following this vegetation back in the photo there is a white sign hanging from a tree and the cliffs decrease in size leading to what appears to be an inlet. The very back of the picture is another land mass vegetated with a log cabin residing on the right shore side. Few miscellaneous rocks protrude from the surface of the water close to shore following it back to the inlet. The water is very calm and could be either spring or summer.
