Title:
Slate Quarry and Mills
- Date:
- 1907
- Description:
- A caption at the top of the historic image reads, "Slate Quarry and Mills, Fair Haven, Vermont." The post card is hand colored. The image shows a view of a large pile of slate stacked in the foreground. The slate stacks well and breaks into long, flat pieces because the minerals in it are aligned by weak metamorphism (heat and pressure). It started as a muddy sedimentary rock. There are two buildings. One is broad and the other more narrow with a smoke stack. There is grass in the right foreground and a forest in the background of the image.
