Title:
Picking Strawberries
Town:
New Haven
County:
Addison
State:
Vermont
Date:
1890 - 1910
Description:
The historic image shows boy, girls, women, and men picking strawberries in a farm field. Some people are sitting on wagons pulled by horse teams. There appear to be crates of strawberries piled on one of the wagons. There are also some people sitting in carriages pulled by horses. There is another crop field and a pasture, followed by a house and several farm buildings beyond the people. There are some trees, including elms, along wooden fences on the left side of the image. Bev Landon writes on 2010-01-05: The first time I saw this image was in a hardcover book about Vermont. It is on the West side of North Street in New Haven. Owned by Landon, Melvin & Lou 1977- 1920. Previously owned by Frederick & Charlotte McNeil since 1894. Mr. & Mrs. McNeil had a strawberry business and these people are picking those berries. The view is taken facing South and shows some of the farm buildings belonging to others in the distance. Mr. and Mrs. McNeil also had boarders. My own Grandmother was a resident there while she was employed as a school teacher at the schoolhouse farther South nearer the intersection of North Street with Route 17.
