A Valley as Seen from the Long Trail

Title:
A Valley as Seen from the Long Trail
Town:
Unknown
County:
No_County
State:
Vermont
Date:
1914
Description:
In this historic photograph, two men are sitting on the rocky face of a mountain. They are on the left side of the image with their backs to the camera, and the mountain continues sharply upward. The men wear long pants and long-sleeve shirts. There are small coniferous trees or plants growing amongst the rocks. Beyond the men, there is a large, open valley. The valley has areas that are densely wooded and areas that appear cultivated. The land becomes hillier near the top of the photograph. It appears to be summer. This image is from a collection of photos that show Herbert W. Congdon and two non-commissioned men from Company A, 23rd Regiment of the New York National Guard. They are hiking along the Mansfield to Brandon-Rochester Pass.
