Title:
The Clay Machine (Courtyard)
Town:
Unknown
County:
No_County
State:
Vermont
Date:
1899-07-28
Description:
This photograph documents a Vermont brickyard. Numerous men work on both sides of the large brick pile, moving them with wooden wheelbarrows filled 10-15 bricks high. The bricks appear to come from the tall building at the back of the brickyard before they make their way to the drying area. To the left of the brickyard is a long building with open sides, its purpose unknown. On the hill in the background a horse drawn wagon and smaller building can be seen. On top of the hill behind the yard are a wooden fence, utility pole, and some deciduous trees. Season summer, photograph courtesy of Nancy Hayes.
