Fall Harvest in Danville

Title:
Fall Harvest in Danville
Town:
Danville
County:
Caledonia
State:
Vermont
Date:
1952
Description:
This color photograph, by Winston Pote, shows a young Betty Lou Sherry at her Danville home during a fall harvest in 1952. The young girl, wearing jeans and a short-sleeved shirt, sits on the edge of a porch and holds a brown cat. The wrapping porch is supported by large Tuscan columns. An array of gourds and bright orange pumpkins are spread out over the porch, just to the left of the girl. A wheelbarrow with two baskets of red apples sit at the girl's feet. To the right of the house is a red barn with white trim. Sliding doors and small transom lights open into the front of the barn. Utility lines run between the barn and the house. A mature, deciduous tree grows at the right edge of the photograph. Autumn leaves a strewn across the grass around the porch and barn. Between the porch columns, on the left side of the photograph, is a glimpse of a distant forest of autumn-colored trees and Burke and Umpire mountains.
