Title:
Elizabeth Mine, Strafford
Town:
Strafford
County:
Orange
State:
Vermont
Date:
1943 - 1958
Description:
This historic photograph documents the Elizabeth Mine in Strafford Vermont. In the foreground a partially forested steep embankment leads from the location of the photographer down towards the Elizabeth Mine. The main cluster of mine buildings appears to be built upon a large pile of mine tailings, and consists of wood framed structures. The area around the mine appears relatively devoid of vegetation, however some small deciduous trees can be seen reestablished upon the slope above the mine. The white house on the hillside appears to be one of the only residential buildings visible among the mine buildings. Even thought the photograph is not of the highest quality, utility lines and wood poles can be seen running adjacent to the main cluster of mine buildings. The rolling hills of the Green Mountains can be seen behind the mill, and consists of pockets of forested and cleared land. The forested land appears to vary between conifer forests (dark black) and deciduous forest (light grey) due to the amount of foliage the types of trees retain during the winter. season winter.
