Title:
Lone Rock Point reverse thrust fault
|

|
- Date:
- 2008-04-26
- Description:
- Here we see a view from under the butting cliff of Lone Rock Point. Notably the over thrust of Dunham Dolostone is older than the Iberville Shale layer that it sits on. This geologic phenomenon resulted from the Champlain Thrust. Without extraneous circumstances, typically rock layers on top are younger than what layer is below. In this photo we see a number of coniferous trees. Additionally, we can see Lake Champlain, and a small rock jutting out above the lake surface near the shore. The photographer had a very difficult time scrambling along the shale to get into his position to take the photograph. This photo was taken at a time when the lake level was very high. Typically there is a shoreline where people can walk on, but not during this time after winter’s snowmelt.
