Title:
Aerial photograph of the White River
Town:
Royalton
County:
Windsor
State:
Vermont
Date:
1927-11-08
Description:
The historic image shows the White River Valley after the flood of 1927. A caption at the bottom of the image reads, "11-8-27-10:45A. Railroad Bridge Between Royalton, Vt. and_" The railroad bridge appears to be intact; however, an automobile bridge upstream may have been wiped out. The dirt road approaching the bridge was also damaged. Sediment deposited by the floodwaters is visible in the floodplain. There are several houses and farm buildings in the river valley. There appears to be a cemetery in the lower, left corner and there is a forested hill in the lower, right corner of the photograph. Much of the landscape has been cleared for farming. The riparian zone is bare.
