House and Business in town

Title:
House and Business in town
Town:
Bakersfield
County:
Franklin
State:
Vermont
Date:
1903
Description:
The historic image shows a two-story commercial building along a dirt road. There are three men standing on the raised wooden porch. There is a house to the left. A handwritten title at the top of the photograph reads, "Bakersfield, Vermont 1903." Esther Munroe Swift writes 2004-12-25: I wonder if the large building, with porch and enclosed outer stairway to the 2nd floor isn't in fact the Post Office, which was opened in 1811 and is still in operation. What appears to be notices can be seen on the wall in back of right hand post. Also shown on right of building is a framework (for logs?) In far back is a substantial barn, with open doorway.
