- Esther Munroe Swift writes on 2005-1-9: Cambridge town records show that the name of the village which was originally called Cambridge Center was voted at a town meeting to be changed to Jeffersonville in honor of Thomas Jefferson, who was much admired by many Vermonters. What is now Washington County was originally named Jefferson County in his honor.
