Description:
The historic image gives a view of the town from a nearby hill. There are houses and a church visible in the town. The landscape is a combination of open fields and forests on hills. Elm trees are part of the vegetation. It looks like summer. Text at the bottom of the image reads, "Chelsea, Vt." Esther Munroe Swift writes on 2005-1-13: This image was taken from the high hill above Chelsea. Many of buildings look much the same today. Barely visible on middle left side is the golden dome of the stateley Orange County Court House among the trees around the common. Chelsea was made the shire town for Orange County in 1796 & the post office ws opened the same years. The First Branch of the White River winds its way thru the town, helping to make it one of the beauty spots that annually attract many visitors & their cameras.
