Title:
Bird's Eye View of Pownal Valley
Town:
Pownal
County:
Bennington
State:
Vermont
Date:
1907 - 1915
Description:
A caption at the bottom of the historic image reads, "P8857, The Pownal Valley, Pownal, Vt. Photo Underwood & Underwood, N.Y." The image gives a view of the valley from a nearby hill. A road lined with electric lines runs through the valley. There are houses, farm buildings, pastures, and fields of crops in the valley. Partially forested mountains surround the valley. Richard Champney writes, "This is taken on the hill opposite present-day Burrington's farm looking Northwest. The B&M railroad track and route 346 are visible on the valley floor. The limestone quarry just before the village of North Pownal is visible on the distant hillside."
