Dams and Reservoirs

Dams have long been a part of the Vermont landscape and are integral to the development of the state's industry and growth, from early timber mill ponds and reservoirs for clean drinking water to massive concrete structures providing much-needed flood protection for Vermont's villages. The type of dam in an historic image can help in narrowing the date of the image. The introduction of concrete technology was a major turning point in dam construction, and the years after the 1927 flood saw a boom in dam construction and reconstruction.
