Men's Clothing

Men's clothing in the 1880s had a closer fit then previous decades.

Short, narrowly fitted jackets with narrow sleeves were popular during the 1880s. The lapels of the jacket were extremely narrow and small, and the jacket fit close to the throat, barely revealing the necktie.

A cutaway jacket was introduced during the 80s that allowed the bottom of the vest and the watch chain to be seen. The jacket had three or four buttons that were buttoned to the top. Notice how the men's jackets in the image below are cut up from the bottom.

Trousers finally became narrower during the 1880s. Trousers were usually black but occasionally had a bold stripe pattern.
