1. Standard proposal comes to committee via external request or scheduled cyclical review.
External sources should submit formal requests via email form or direct proposal before the committee.
Sources include (but are not limited to): Individual students or organizations, Faculty, Staff, and other committees.
Courtesy note sent to CIO at this time.2. One committee member will be nominated to "own" the process. Care sould be taken to aviod conflicts of interest.
3. Complexiy of issue is assessed. Need for outside advisors evaluated; authorities in field under discussion will be solicited for "expert advice".
4. A list of candidates for standardization will be generated. The merits and disadvantages of each candidate will be enumerated.
5. A decision-making matrix will be generated.
6. Relative importance of each criterion will be quantified within the matrix.
7. One or a number of top-ranking candidates will be nominated for standardization.
8. Preliminary sunrise/sunset dates will be attached to the nomination.
9. Proposed standard will be forwarded to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for approval of public discussion.
