Configuring UVM Wireless on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8

The Easy Way
- Download and run the UVM Profile installation tool for Windows:
- At this point, a message should appear in your system tray that
states "Additional information is required to connect to UVM.". Click
this alert bubble:

- A "Enter Credentials" dialog should appear. Provide the following
information, then click "OK":
- User name: [Your UVM NetID]
- Password: [Your UVM NetID password]
- Logon domain: [leave blank]

- You should now be connected to the UVM wireless network.
The Hard Way
These instructions were written using Windows Vista as a reference platform, but configuration steps for Windows 7 should be very similar.
- Go to the Windows menu, select "Control Panel":

- Select the "Network and Internet" category:

- Select the "Network and Sharing Center" category:

- Select "Manage wireless networks" from the left-hand menu:

- Click "Add" from the available taskbar:

The "Connect to a wireless network wizard" will begin:- Click the "Manually create a network profile" option:

- Provide the following information when prompted, then click
"Next":
- Network name: UVM
- Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
- Encryption type: AES
- Security Key/Passphrase: [Leave blank]
- Start this connection automatically: [select]
- Connect even if the network is not broadcasting: [de-select]

- The wizard should report "Successfully added UVM". Select the
"Change connection settings" option:

- The "UVM Wireless Network properties" dialog should appear.
Make the following changes to the default options:
- Under the "Connection" tab:
- De-select "Connect to a more preferred network if available"
- Make sure that "Connect automatically when this network
is in range" is selected:

- Under the "Security" tab:
- Under "Choose a network authentication method:", make
sure "Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) is specified, then
click "Settings":

- The "Protected EAP Properties" dialog will appear. Make
the following changes:
- Select "Connect to these servers:", and enter "radius.uvm.edu" below the check box:
- Under "Trusted Root Certification Authorities", select "Equifax Secure Certificate Authority". If it is present also select "GeoTrust Global CA".
- Under "Select Authentication Method:", "Secured
password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)" should be selected. Click the
"Configure" button.
Note: If you do not see "Equifax Secure Certificate Authority" displayed in the list of available certificates, you will first need to download and install the Equifax root certificate which is available from the Utilities page of this documentation.

- The "EAP MSCHAPv2
Properties" dialog will appear.
- On workstations which are
not joined to the CAMPUS Active
Directory domain, De-select the
"Automatically use my Windows logon name and
password (and domain if any)" check box:

- On workstations which are joined to the CAMPUS domain, keep this dialog box selected.
- On workstations which are
not joined to the CAMPUS Active
Directory domain, De-select the
"Automatically use my Windows logon name and
password (and domain if any)" check box:
- Click "OK" to clear the "EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties" dialog.
- The "EAP MSCHAPv2
Properties" dialog will appear.
- Click "OK" to clear the "Protected EAP Properties" dialog.
- Under "Choose a network authentication method:", make
sure "Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) is specified, then
click "Settings":
- Click "OK" to clear the "UVM Wireless Network properties" dialog box.
- Under the "Connection" tab:
- You will be returned to the "Manually connect to a wireless network" wizard, which you can now exit.
- Click the "Manually create a network profile" option:
- At this point, a message should appear in your system tray that
states "Additional information is required to connect to UVM.". Click
this alert bubble:

- A "Enter Credentials" dialog should appear. Provide the following
information, then click "OK":
- User name: [Your UVM NetID]
- Password: [Your UVM NetID password]
- Logon domain: [leave blank]

- You should now be connected to the UVM wireless network.
