Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions at the University of Vermont
UVM subscribes to a Microsoft volume licensing program for the most commonly used Microsoft software. The Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions program provides the latest releases of the following software for all University-owned computers:
- Office Standard and Professional, for Windows and Macintosh
- Windows operating system upgrades
- Visual Studio
- Certain specialized software
- Microsoft eLearning Library (MELL)
The UVM Techstore will install Microsoft Office on all new Macintosh and Windows systems purchased through them by departments. If you are considering installing or upgrading software on existing systems, please consult with your department's or college's information technology support team, if you have one. Upgrade policies and practices will be at the discretion of each college or department. In particular, Windows operating system installations and upgrades should not be attempted without sufficient knowledge and experience. ETS maintains an easy-to-use service for deploying Windows systems, complete with Microsoft Office and other applications.
For manual installation of covered software, see the installation instructions.
Part of this agreement is the Student Advantage Program, which offers Microsoft Office to UVM students, faculty, and staff for personal use at no charge. See go.uvm.edu/getoffice.
In addition, the EES agreement includes the Home Use Program, which provides one copy of Microsoft Office for faculty and staff working at home for a nominal fee, with an option to purchase physical media. The Home Use Program may be a better choice for someone who has a computer without broad-band Internet connectivity. See the link for details.
For more information, please see our Frequently Asked Questions. For general information on the Microsoft EES program, please see the Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions website.
