Vermont Sponsored Education Group Participation
In conjunction with the EPSCoR C2 grant and in collaboration with the State of Vermont Department of Information and Innovation and Department of Education offices, UVM sponsors participation in Internet2's Sponsored Education Group Participation (SEGP) program through the Vermont SEGP chapter. As a result of UVM joining SEGP, Vermont's school districts, Vermont State Colleges, private colleges, libraries, museums, and health-care services will be able to participate in and learn from similar community anchor institutions in other states. Forty states are participating in SEGP with over 66,000 connected organizations, including 7300 school districts and 3500 libraries.
The SEGP program allows expanded access to the Internet2 Network for state and regional education networks, through sponsorship by Internet2 university members. State and regional networks may include nonprofit and for-profit K-20 educational institutions, museums, libraries, art galleries, or hospitals that require routine collaboration on instructional, clinical and/or research projects, services and content with Internet2 members or with other sponsored participants. The program began in early 2001 and as of June 2011 has thirty-nine state K20 networks participating.
In addition to UVM, Vermont SEGP participants include:
