Acessing Software via Network Share for
Microsoft Campus Agreement

Accessing and installing common software covered by Campus Agreement is as easy as connecting to a network share over the campus network. The share paths are:

Windows (Start > Run) Macintosh (Go > Connect to Server)

\\files.uvm.edu\mca

Username: CAMPUS\[your-netID]
Password: [your-password]

cifs://files.uvm.edu/mca

Workgroup or Domain: CAMPUS
Username: [your-netID]
Password: [your-password]

Replace [your-netID] with your campus NetID and [your-password] with your Net-ID  password. If you log into the CAMPUS domain on your Windows workstation, you won't need to enter your username and password.

Choose the appropriate operating system from the directories available, and choose your install type. You can install directly over the network (for high-speed networks) or copy the installer to your local disk first.

Installation is authorized only on computers owned by the University of Vermont and on computers belonging to certain salaried graduate students.

Special Instructions for the VirtualPC installer:

  1. Connect to the network share (see above).
  2. Mount the VirtualPC disk image (.dmg).
  3. Run the VirtualPC installer.
  4. Reboot when prompted.
  5. On reboot, VirtualPC setup continues and prompts for install media.
  6. Reconnect to the network share, remount the .dmg, and setup continues.
  7. Setup prompts for a product key (see your department's IT staff).
  8. Setup then asks if you want to create a new VirtualPC image. You will need to create and image from an existing Windows CD.
