Q: Who can buy from the Depot?
A: UVM students enrolled in a degree seeking program, faculty, staff, and departments. Please see our eligibility requirements.
Q: How do I order a computer?
A: There are two different methods, depending on whether your are ordering as a student, staff, or faculty (individual), or as a department. Students, please note: during Back-to-School season (June-September), please refer to the BTS FAQ's.
As an individual (students, staff, & faculty with personal funds):
Order your computer in person at the Depot in 200 Davis Center or by phone (802-656-3067). One of our staff will be happy to help you. Students may order online during our annual Back-to-School (BTS) promotion from June through September.
As a department with University funds:
As of July 1, 2006, all departmental orders for computers must be processed through PeopleSoft (https://www.uvm.edu/~erp/portal/). Please see our Departmental Ordering page for more info and how to gain access to the eProcurement module in PeopleSoft.
Q: Does the Depot charge sales tax?
A: Yes, for sales & services to students, staff, and faculty for personal use. The Vermont Sales and Use Tax rate (6%) applies to new products and service parts sold to individuals. Effective July 1, 2006, the Local Option Sales Tax (1%) applies to all items subject to the Vermont Sales and Use Tax. Items ordered via the Internet and shipped to addresses outside of Vermont are typically not subject to sales tax; Internet orders picked up or delivered to Vermont locations are subject to state and local sales taxes.
As of January 1, 2007, shipping charges are also subject to sales tax. Shipping charges for products shipped to the Depot will be assessed the total 7% sales tax for Burlington. Shipping on products that we send to customers will depend on the destination; in Vermont: 6% state tax plus applicable local option 1% tax (click here for the list of towns); out-of-state: 0%.
Q: Does the Depot sell software?
A: Yes! We routinely stock Microsoft Office for Windows and Mac OS X, and Apple's OS X & "i" series offerings.
Students, staff, and faculty may buy software with or without the purchase of a new computer. Staff and faculty are eligible under UVM's Microsoft Campus Agreement (CA) to purchase Work-at-Home media for software covered by CA, most notably Microsoft Office. Students may purchase Microsoft Office through our "Student Select" licensing program.
All computers purchased by departments have Microsoft Office installed as part of UVM's Microsoft Campus Agreement, and a suite of UVM-supported software.
In many cases, we can also special-order software if you are not finding a particular title on our software price pages.
For more information about software available through the Depot, please see our Software and Select Agreement pages.
Q: Where and How do I get my computer?
A: Computer orders are picked up at the Depot in 200 Davis Center. If you have special needs, please contact our office.
Delivery and installation are included when departments buy computers. Delivery is only available to departmental on-campus addresses and offices in the Greater Burlington Area.
Q: Do you rent computers?
A: We do not rent computers. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Q: Do you service printers?
A: We do not service printers. Printers sold by the Depot must be serviced directly by their manufacturers or an authorized repair center. For additional details, please review the Printer Service procedures.
