What is AppleCare Protection Plan?
The AppleCare Protection Plan (APP) is a uniquely integrated service and support solution that extends the complimentary coverage on your Mac to three years from the computer’s purchase date. This comprehensive plan includes expert telephone technical support, global repair coverage, onsite repairs for desktop computers1, web-based support resources, and powerful diagnostic tools all for one economical price. We recommend that you purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan when you purchase your Apple system to take maximum advantage of the coverage the plan provides.
As an Apple-Authorize Service Provider (AASP), the Computer Depot can provide full repair service under APP while you are on-campus. When you are away from campus, you may contact Apple directly, or any AASP or Apple Store for service under AppleCare.
What AppleCare Protection Plan is NOT
AppleCare does not cover damage of any kind, whether caused by accident, intentional acts, fire, theft, loss, power surges or lightning, or normal wear. We recommend therefore that you supplement coverage by a rider on your homeowner's insurance policy, or via a third-party damage coverage plan such as those available through Safeware, The Insurance Agency, Inc. (Safeware is not affiliated with Apple or UVM in any manner.)
AppleCare does not extend the warranty of consumable items, such as laptop batteries, except in respect of battery coverage under APP for iPod, or unless the failure of such items is due to defects in materials and/or workmanship. Coverage is determined on a case-by-case basis.
AppleCare does not cover purely software-related failures. However, Apple itself, via phone support, can assist with the reinstallation and/or troubleshooting of Mac OS X and pre-installed Apple software. (See the AppleCare Terms and Conditions for details.) OS and application support at UVM is freely available through the Computer Depot Clinic.
See the AppleCare site for more info: http://www.apple.com/support/products
- On-Site service is limited to departmentally-owned desktops on campus or at UVM office spaces in the Greater Burlington Area.
